Mixed use buildings in urban environments are an efficient means to provide residents with easy access to a number of stores, restaurants and now a place to store their valuables in a climate-controlled environment.
New Orleans, Louisiana is soon to be home to a new mixed-use development that is mixing retail, restaurants, cafe’s, office space with climate-controlled self-storage.
Dudley Engineering is serving as the structural engineer with Bryan Tyson, PE as the engineer-of-record.
Unique Challenges
The foundation for this development presents several challenges including overcoming the compressible soils that are predominant on the site. To rise above the challenge, Dudley Engineering has designed a foundation comprised of composite concrete and wood piles supporting a structural two-way slab (mat foundation).
